Community Outreach and Engagement

Overview

The Dean Carter Binational Center for Environmental Health Sciences is housed under the UA Superfund Reserach Program, Community Enagementment Core.  As a result, one of it the central activities is to provide stakeholder outreach and education in Mexico, Arizona, and the U.S.-Mexico Border region.  The community outreach and engagement goals are:
  • To increase public awareness of the health risks associated with common occurring contaminants as well as the potential remediation strategies that can decrease exposure.
  • To provide appropriate and timely information that contributes to informed stakeholder decision-making and development of public policy regarding environmental issues.
The Community Engagement Core offers the following services:
  • Printed and electronic outreach materials for diverse stakeholders.
  • Informational meetings focused on contaminants of concerns to the public.
  • Environmental science themed presentations targeting citizen groups and community advocates.
  • Point of access to Dean Carter Binational Center and Superfund Research Program science personnel.
